During the week of 7th – 11th October, and for the first time in Malta, the International Safety Training College of Malta (ISTC) will be hosting the Proboard/NFPA audit team from the United States and the Fire Service College from the UK, for the purposes of assessing the NFPA 1072 ‘Hazmat Awareness & Operator’ training course, which will be delivered to a variety of delegates at the International Safety Training College in Hal Far.
This training course is designed for personnel and first responders who may be faced with an incident involving hazardous materials and/or weapons of mass destruction, and how they should protect themselves, initiate a proper response, recognise the hazards & then apply the appropriate risk assessment techniques & basic control confinement for dealing with a Hazmat or CBRN incident.
The College Director of ISTC Mr. Andrew Gilravey explains that, ‘the Proboard audit has been planned for some time and is a major factor in accrediting the Fire Service College to deliver Proboard approved training courses at ISTC via our ongoing alliance, and once successfully completed, will accredit the FSC UK to deliver a whole raft of Proboard approved training courses to our existing and developing local & International clientele’.
About Proboard: Established in 1972, the Pro Board is the original fire service system for the accreditation of agencies that certify candidates to the various disciplines and levels identified in the NFPA Professional Qualification series of standards.
About the Fire Service College UK: The FSC is renowned as one of the worlds’ leading providers of fire officer training and this is evidenced by the global reach of the FSC brand and its recognition in many parts of the globe. Having trained in excess of 450,000 delegates from over 120 countries, the FSC sees mutual benefit in having ISTC as a preferred partner and recognises the added value that ISTC will bring through their OPITO, JOIFF, LYCAA, STCW95 and NEBOSH accreditations, plus their existing business links into North Africa and the MENA regions.
The strategic location of ISTC and its access to a variety of markets, combined with the FSC’s worldwide reputation and reach, offers a unique opportunity for mutual success for both parties, and we look forward to a lasting and collaborative future together.
